Lending a Hand

Today a number of us helped out the Secret 67 HQ students. They were learning all about how to log in to Google Docs and send an email, all the skills we had learnt from the first week of school.

We had a blast - there was lots of questioning of the Juniors, lots of prompting them to think about how to solve some of the problems and lots of team work. It was neat to see the Seniors helping out the Juniors in this way. It also allowed our class to put to use the skills we had learnt. By the end of it many of the class were showing their buddies extra skills...here are some photos of us in action.

Learning about vocab

Today we discovered that knowing what words mean is really important in learning. We are busy learning about virtual tours but not many of us actually knew what "virtual" meant. So we set about learning this. This is what we found out (we also learnt a few new words such as digital).

Before camp...

Learning Intention: Express our thoughts and feelings about camp.

Keywords: express, thoughts, feelings

Next week we are off to camp. I know that I am excited but also a little bit nervous, especially about the weather. We brainstormed a list of things we could write about, have chosen three each and are learning to share thoughts and feelings in a bit of detail. We might even select some more goals based on this writing. Here are the topics:

  • What are you excited about?
  • How might you feel during night time?
  • How might you show empathy during camp?
  • Where/when are we going?
  • What do you want to learn?
  • What features in the Gardens do you really want to look at?
  • What do you think about going?
  • What are you nervous about?
  • What are some of the negatives/positives?
Check our our writing by clicking on the children's names to the right and reading all about our "before" camp thoughts and feelings.

Munch Crunch - Class Discussion

Munch Crunch

In Room 10, we don’t all have Munch Crunch at the same time...we take it when each of us need it. For some people that might be 9:27am, for others it might be 10:13am and others might not want it at all!!!

Why do we have Munch Crunch at Frankley School?
  • to get our brains working (Kaino)
  • to give us energy to do our work (Josh)
  • to get us started for the day (Emily)
  • to help us overcome tiredness (Cooper F)
  • to refuel (Jack)
  • to eat fruit because it’s healthy (Poppy)
  • to give us a break from work (Oscar)
  • we just might be hungry! (Emily)

So if we are not going to have Munch Crunch all at once, we do need a few guidelines/ideas on how it will work properly…
  • Let me know when you are leaving the room to get it
  • Get your Munch Crunch from your bag and come straight back to the room to eat it
  • Work while you are eating your Munch Crunch
  • Have it when you need it! Take it before morning tea
  • Keep food away from the computer
  • Only go out once
  • Wait until we are off the mat
